Summer Reading Program

Dear Parents,

This summer I am offering a summer tutoring program that will focus on reading comprehension and note taking skills.  We will use the books on the students’ summer reading lists.  This way students will learn valuable skills to use in all of their classes and their ACT tests.  They will also be reading their summer reading books at the same time.

I have found that these are two areas where many students are lacking.  Students who attend will be expected to read a certain amount between sessions and take notes on what they have read.  We will discuss what they have read, go over what they should have written in their notes, view resources that will help them understand the time period in which the book is set when needed, and focus on what is important to the story as well as other elements students need to know.  This will improve their performance in their English classes, their ACT test, and any other course where they have to read and comprehend material.  We will also do sample ACT reading passages to begin each session to help them become more comfortable with the type of passages they will have on the actual ACT test.

The cost will be $25.00 per child per session; a $25.00 discount will be given to parents who pay for entire program in advance.  Sessions will be held once a week in my classroom on the following Tuesdays, June 11, June 18, June 25, July 9, July 16, and July 23.  It is okay if a student is not able to attend all the sessions.  I will send out a reading schedule in the next week along with the summer reading lists.  Session times will be as follows:

English I          9-10 AM

English II        10-11 AM

English III (non honors)         11 AM- 12 PM

Please email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or contact the school at 457-2592 and leave a message if you are interested in enrolling your child or if you have any questions.  Summer reading lists will be posted on renweb.com before the end of May, and I will be sending out the reading schedule to those parents who have shown interest by the end of next week.  Please let me know as soon as you can if you are interested in having your child attend so that I can begin preparing materials.  Thank you for your continued support.

God Bless,
